Two Day Group Workshops.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP AT WHITSOME ARK.

SATURDAY 8TH & SUNDAY 9TH JUNE, 2024.

10AM – 4PM.  £260 PER PERSON

This class is suitable for beginners, those with some basic knowledge or those who have woven in the past but would like a refresher session.  As well as the specific options below, every student will learn about good shuttle handling, finishing techniques for your woven cloth and the importance of a floating selvedge and when one is needed.  If time allows, the basics of pattern drafting will also be introduced.  Your choice of class subject can be made on the day if you’re not sure which you’d prefer; you can focus on one of the following or, if you have a specific idea and it’s achievable within the time, you can do your own thing.

Personalise your Fabric.

Over two days you will learn to wind a warp, dress the loom and weave some basic patterns. We will concentrate on twill patterns, hand manipulated weaves and exploring different yarns and colours; these techniques allow the student to fully experiment and explore myriad ideas.  Refreshments provided.

Exploring Twill Patterns

As in the Personalise your Fabric workshop, you will learn to wind a warp, dress the loom and weave a sample length of fabric. The emphasis in this workshop will be on the 2/2 twill structure and the fabric will be constructed as a sample blanket of various twill patterns. The resulting fabric could be used as a design aid for future projects or made into a cushion cover or bag.  Refreshments provided.

Weave a Scarf.

Over two days, you will learn how to wind a warp, dress your loom and weave a beautiful wool scarf; there will be an opportunity to experiment with ideas before finalising your scarf design.  This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those who have already completed a Taster Day and all materials are provided for you to complete your scarf. Refreshments provided.

The venue is Whitsome Ark, a purpose-built Village Hall, 7.5 miles east of Duns, 10.5 miles west of Berwick.  The postcode for SatNav is TD11 3NA and what3words is choppers.gangs.ascendant
