About

Spring at Flight Weaving studio

Hello! I’m Janis Embleton, a hand-weaver, textile artist and weaving tutor from Scotland.

I work from my studio near Duns in the beautiful Borders, running weaving workshops and making bespoke artisan textiles and fabric commissions. I’m also a designer and maker of textile wall art, so get in touch if you’d like the perfect wall hanging for your space!

The many hand-weaving looms jostling in my studio include my beloved vintage Swedish Ulla Cyrus Countermarch; Ashford, Harris and Glimåkra table looms, and small rigid heddle looms for teaching.
I have a BA (Hons) Woven Textile Design from the University of the Creative Arts, and am a Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and Craft Scotland. Although mainly Scottish-based, I also travel, and have been lucky enough to go on a three-week UNESCO trip to China, to work with women in the Dai community in Yunnan Province. I also spent a week in Stockholm working with Swedish designer Asa Pärson, exploring new weaving techniques.

My work has been featured in Robson Green’s Tales of Northumberland on ITV, and the documentary film Wool to the Mills, as well as several craft magazines.

Visit my Gallery page  to see my ready-made range of designer scarves and fabric designs. All are available to buy, in a colour of your choice. Here you will see some of the gorgeous colours, yarns and textures that inspire me. I hope you love them, too! You can also find my work for sale in my Etsy shop FlightWeaving

I have many years teaching experience and hold regular workshops for both one-to-one students and groups. I am also happy to lecture about weaving to clubs and groups such as the WI or Guilds.
